Ever since i can recall an ornate intricately painted yellow plate has always sat on a shelf in my mother's study at home.

Ever since i can recall an ornate intricately painted yellow plate has always sat on a shelf in my mother's study at home.
As i was walking around the collection, in a cabinet in the corner of a room i came across a dozen or so identical looking plates. Especially attracted to them no doubt due to some deep-seated recognition i spent all afternoon drawing there, and devised to make my own version of these Maiolica ceramics for the Wallace Collection gift shop. The warm colour palette and fullness of detail in the design made it an exciting ordeal, especially as i was painting in coloured dyes totally different to how they would look once fired in a kiln.
